The main application fields of niobium-titanium alloys

The application form of niobium-titanium alloy is always to make superconducting wires. Its structure is usually as follows: hundreds or even tens of thousands of extremely fine niobium-titanium wires are embedded in a high-conductivity oxygen-free copper or high-purity aluminum matrix and then twisted together. The function of the copper matrix is to provide a bypass and quickly divert the huge current when the superconducting state loses its superconductivity, thereby protecting the superconducting magnet from being burned out.

1. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - the largest commercial application, the core of MRI equipment is a powerful superconducting magnet used to generate an extremely uniform and stable static background magnetic field (typically 1.5T or 3.0T). In this magnetic field, the hydrogen nuclei in the human body are polarized and form images by receiving the radio frequency signals they release.

2. Particle accelerators and High-Energy Physics Research - The Most Cutting-edge Scientific Applications. The accelerator requires thousands of powerful superconducting bipolar magnets (to deflect the particle beam) and quadrupole magnets (to focus the particle beam) to accelerate the particles to nearly the speed of light and conduct collision experiments. 3. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer. NMR is the "predecessor" of MRI and is mainly used in the fields of chemistry, biology and materials science to analyze the detailed structure of molecules.
