High strength and high toughness titanium alloy

Ti-6Al-4V, as an α+β two-phase medium strength alloy, is widely used in all walks of life, but in the actual application process, due to the high strength of Ti-6Al-4V, in the annealed state, some industries require Ti-6Al-4V to work in a high strength environment. At the same time, Ti-6Al-4V is required to have good toughness. High strength and good toughness itself is a contradiction, in ensuring high strength at the same time, toughness is difficult to stabilize, which in the actual production process and in the industry application has obvious performance. For example: golf ball head to hit the spherical surface of the strength, plasticity and toughness requirements are very high, the current domestic production of Ti-6Al-4V material, tensile strength ≥1000Mpa, especially higher than 1100Mpa, titanium alloy elongation is difficult to reach 15%, and unstable. There are also requirements for the strength and toughness of Ti-6Al-4V in other domestic industries, including stability, but they have not been solved.

While not affecting the strength, it can ensure the elongation ≥ 14%, we have a lot of experiments, and finally adopt the way of adding zirconium (Zr). The reason why zirconium is chosen is because zirconium belongs to the same group of elements of titanium, atomic radius and titanium are similar, and titanium can form α and β continuous solid solution, for the titanium material itself metallographic organization, crystal lattice structure will not have any effect, and has a fine grain, improve plasticity and toughness.

With a wide range of applications, long service life and other characteristics, can produce plate, rod, wire, wire, pipe, forgings, castings and other metallurgical products. It can be used in aerospace, shipbuilding, petrochemical, metallurgy, sports, medical, construction and other fields.

Titanium sponge, pure zirconium powder, pure aluminum and aluminum-vanadium alloy were used as raw materials to prepare alloy materials, and the design mass of each component was respectively titanium sponge and impurities 89.6 kg, aluminum (Al)6 kg, vanadium (V)4 kg, zirconium (Zr)0.4 kg. After pressing the electrode, the secondary vacuum arc consumable melting was carried out, and the ingot was started at 1050-1150℃. Alloy plates are processed at 850-950℃, and the total variation is controlled between 75-95%. The above processing technology can be carried out according to the method of prior art.
