Rhenium Application

Rhenium is mainly used as a catalyst for the petroleum industry

Rhenium has a high melting point, which is a major high temperature instrument material.

Rhenium has high electron emission properties and is widely used in radio, television and vacuum technology.

Rhenium and rhenium alloys can also be used as electron tube components and ultra-high temperature heaters to evaporate metals.

Tungsten-rhenium thermocouples will not soften at 3100 ℃. Adding 25% of rhenium in tungsten or molybdenum alloy can increase the ductility; Rhenium is used for high temperature coating on rockets and missiles, and rhenium is needed for spacecraft instruments and high-temperature components such as thermal shielding, arc discharge and electric contactor.

Metal rhenium and its alloy can make tap water pen tip and high temperature thermocouple; Catalysts in alcohol dehydrogenation, synthetic ammonia, etc. Alloys containing rhenium can withstand high temperatures; Because rhenium is scattered, the price is expensive, the practical application is still to be developed. It is also used to make the shell of electric filament, artificial satellite and rocket, the protective plate of nuclear reactor, etc.

Effects of Rhenium

Rhenium can improve the strength of the tungsten, molybdenum, chromium and plastic, people call this phenomenon "rhenium effect". Add a small amount (3% ~ 5%) of rhenium can raises 300 ℃ ~ 500 ℃ of the tungsten recrystallization starting temperature. W - Re and Mo - Re alloy has good high temperature strength and plasticity, can be processed into targets, plates, wire, wire, rod, used in aerospace, aviation high temperature structure (nozzle, thermal protective screen, etc.), elastic components and electronic components, Rhenium (Re) has influence on the single crystal superalloy microstructure, mechanical properties, unstable phase and single crystal defects, and it also pointed out the future research direction.

Pure rhenium and its compounds have excellent catalytic activity (rhenium is highly selective for many chemical reactions) and is often used as a catalyst in fields such as petrochemical industry.
Catalytic reforming is one of the petroleum refining processes, which is an important means to improve the quality of gasoline and to produce petrochemical raw materials. As a catalyst in the catalytic reforming process, rhenium platinum alloy can improve the depth of the reaction and increase the yield of gasoline, aromatic hydrocarbon and hydrogen. In addition, rhenium can be used as catalyst for vehicle exhaust purification, while rhenium sulfide can be used as hydrogenation catalyst for cresol and lignin.
