Tantalum is the solution to ablative wear problems

The elastic modulus of tantalum is similar to that of steel, and it has good conductivity and plasticity. In addition, the metal activity of tantalum is low, with very high corrosion resistance, and various strong acids cannot be corroded at room temperature (except hydrogen fluoride and fuming sulfuric acid). At the same time, tantalum has good biocompatibility, good wear resistance and so on. At present, tantalum metal has been used in many fields such as medical, aerospace, military industry, especially in the aerospace and military fields.

The good mechanical properties of tantalum at high temperature meet the requirements of wear and ablation conditions. Reasonable development and utilization of tantalum coating can improve the life of the workpiece under wear and burning conditions, save resources, and obtain good economic benefits and security. Tantalum coating was prepared, and the ablative wear resistance of tantalum coating and chromium coating was studied. The results showed that the wear rate of chromium coating increased significantly after 1200 cycles of experiments, while the tantalum coating remained stable.

Tantalum superalloys are used in almost all high performance military and civil aviation engines for the highest heat resistance and stress load components. The melting point of the recently developed third-generation tantalum-containing single crystal alloys has been further improved, resulting in single crystal turbine blades that can operate at higher temperatures, save fuel, and last longer.

In order to withstand the test of high temperature thermal cycle (1300℃/20min), the surface of the spacecraft parts must be implemented with protective coating to improve its oxidation resistance. Therefore, the study of economically feasible and stable high temperature protective coating is of great significance for the high temperature application of tantalum in the aerospace industry. Because of its high melting point, tantalum is mainly used as heating furnace parts and jet engine parts, and occupies an extremely important position in aerospace and missile technology.
